KASANZI Zénon

Percussionist, dancer, musician, initiator.

WORLD MUSIC

Born in 1967 in Congo.

​

Student at the National Federation of Dance and Ballets in 1981, he will be an actor in various video clips, plays and advertising spots. Percussionist in different music groups, initiator in the creation of several groups: Assalam Percussions, LenkeFoly, Les Poumons de la Planète.

​

He began his career as an animator in 1989 at the Center Placet in Louvain-la Neuve, giving dance lessons and worked for the non-profit association “Bouillon de Couleurs” in Limelette in 1991 where he gave his first lessons in instrument construction. Since then, he has given numerous African percussion lessons, notably for the Jeunesses Musicales du Brabant Wallon.

In 2003, he worked for the non-profit organization “The art of being (s) different” with Jaqueline Beghin for people with disabilities with whom he participated in his first Zinneke Parade for which he took care of the musical and creation component. of instruments. Following this meeting, he became passionate about facilitating people with disabilities.

​

In 2005, he created with Anne Garcia, the non-profit organization “Mwana y mundo” which aims to create a meeting between people with and without disabilities through musical and creative workshops. With Mwana y mundo, he gives lessons in percussion and instrument creation for the Jeunesses Musicales of Brabant-Wallon, Namur and Brussels; as well as in various centers and schools for people with or without disabilities.

In 2006, Mwana y Mundo became responsible for a Zinnode for the Zinneke Parade (Watermael-Boitsfort) and in 2010, he will be a consultant for the Zinneke Parade (Ixelles).

​

In 2008, he met Max Vandervorst (a great wild luthier, creator of the Maison de la Pataphonie in Dinant) and began a collaboration for events and artistic projects. In 2009, Max asked him to create a wild violin-making show on the “North-South” theme. This is how the PATAFRICA show was born.

​

In 2009, during the first Auderghem Carnival, he created the Brotherhood of Loggers, mixing an audience of children, people with disabilities and professional musicians. He creates for this brotherhood hundreds of instruments each year, making the Loggers, the biggest brotherhood of the Carnival.

​

In 2012, he brought together a team of experienced percussionists around new instruments that he had made. He entrusted the scenography to Nathalie Brackevalle and Olivier Dupont. Thus was born the show: "The Lungs of the Planet" which will play for dozens of festivals and street art parties: Esperanzah, Flower Festival, Kidzik, Ghent Festivities,…

​

It also provides training to teachers for the Center d'Enseignement des Communes et des Provinces, the Center de Formation Continue, the Haute Ecole de Bruxelles and the Fédération des Jeunesses musicales.

​

Zénon will accompany the great Geoffrey ORYEMA from 2017 to 2019 and with the ISHANGO MILELE Foundation, he will promote the creation of the ZENKESOUL show at the Auderghem Cultural Center. Show for awareness of science with African Culture.

​

Today, Zénon is still very active in the creation of shows and his workshops in "Lutherie Sauvage", creations of musical instruments with recovery.
